2016, Johnny N, Blue topaz Necklace

Diamond, Blue Topaz Design by Johnny N. All pieces shown by Johnny N.

There’s something to be said about those who wear custom designed jewelry. They’re unique, unlike anyone else — because custom pieces lend an air of distinction that mass-produced pieces simply cannot.

For your next fine jewelry purchase, tell the world something special about you or the person you’re buying for, with a one-of-a-kind custom piece. And, forget the myth that custom design is always more expensive. It can actually be much more affordable than you think!

Your choice of jeweler makes all the difference in the beauty and the cost of your brilliant new piece. Direct your search to lead you to a jeweler noted for excellence in both design and price. Take a look at their featured collections to make sure that he or she designs with the sort of flair and details that appeal to you. And – most importantly – find out what previous customers are saying about them.

One smart and highly-reviewed choice is the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City, voted “Favorite Jewelry Store” by the L.A. Daily News. In business for more than 40 years, they offer one of L.A’s largest selections of certified diamonds, with discounts often at 50-75% below retail. As the exclusive home of the Signature “Johnny N” Designer Line – and – known as the “engagement ring superstore,” the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City showroom offers clients 1000s of stunning showcase choices. But, for those looking for something truly special, their reputation as custom design specialists has made them a sort of go-to hub for those who want true masterpiece design at surprisingly affordable prices. In fact, customer referrals are their number one form of business. Here’s why:

#1. They Skip The Middleman. You Save. Being a direct diamond importer means that they are skilled and experienced enough to scout, source and hand select diamonds themselves as opposed to buying them from a middleman. That also means that they can pass those savings onto you. Typically, custom design work can cost up to three times more than manufactured pieces, but, the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City offers certified diamonds, precious gemstones and custom design labor services to clients for 50-75% below retail pricing.

#2. Expert Work Takes Less Time. You Save. Depending on the intricacy of the piece and the expertise of the Jeweler creating it, a beautifully-designed piece can take anywhere from one week to six weeks to complete. The expert team at Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City uses their more than 40 years of design experience to cut down that time and pass the labor savings directly on to you.

#3. They Put You In the Driver’s Seat. You Save. Some say custom design is risky because you will not see or have access to the piece to make changes before the final outcome. At the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City, the designers work with you during each phase of design to make sure it meets your approval before completing the finished piece, including wax mock-ups, length adjustments and re-sizing, when appropriate. It’s not all about the nickels and dimes. Staying in control also saves you from the headache of worrying about the final outcome of your piece!

Check out a few experiences from Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City customers:

“When I arrived, the ring was perfect. It was EXACTLY like the picture, and it fit perfectly. I was very impressed. The cost was so good that I would have happily paid double what they charged.” – R.M., Riverside, CA

“For a very competitive price…my fiancé now has a gorgeous white gold wedding band with the custom Celtic design I’d wanted using laser etching. We’re incredibly happy!” – M.A., Van Nuys, CA

“(They) made all 3 of our rings for a great price and made them in just a few days! We are super happy with them.” – B.K., Los Angeles, CA

“I wanted a special gift for my husband for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. I visited three other jewelry stores before choosing Diamond & Jewelry Gallery…They designed a STUNNING gift, within my price range and delivered on time!” – J.C., Los Angeles, CA

Myth Busting: Is Custom Jewelry More Expensive?

Sunday, June 12th, 2016

2016, Tami Slogan, Wall Poster

For your next fine jewelry purchase, if you want a truly unique piece that tells the world something special about you or the person you’re buying for, consider custom design. There’s a well-trafficked myth in the jewelry industry that says custom design must always be more expensive than manufactured pieces. Ignore it. Because it’s just that; a myth. Custom design can be much less costly than you think.

Here’s the thing: custom design actually can be more expensive. But, it doesn’t have to be. That’s all the more reason why the right jeweler matters so much. Your choice of jeweler makes all the difference in two very key areas: the beauty of your piece and cost of your piece.

Direct your search to lead you to a jeweler noted for excellence in both design and price. Take a look at their featured collections to make sure that he or she designs with the sort of flair and details that appeal to you. And – most importantly – find out what previous customers are saying about them.

GRAB THE RAINBOW: OPAL IS THE OCTOBER BIRTHSTONE

Fall signifies its arrival with a change in the color of leaves and foliage – making for rich displays of color. So, is the case for the Opal – the gemstone of those with fall birthdays in the month of October.

Beautiful Opals come in a varied “rainbow” of colors, from milky white to mysterious, fire-streaked blue and black stones. The Black Opal is most rare –often rivalling the diamond in pricing.  Next in importance is White Opal, which is characterized by a lighter body color such as white, yellow or cream in addition to unique color plays. Other types of sought after stones include the Fire Opal, or Mexican Fire Opal, which is a transparent to translucent deep orange-red stone. Fire Opal can also feature unusual plays of color – a rarity that when it occurs, results in the stone being called a Precious Fire Opal.

A Black Opal Stone

The name opal is derived from the Greek word Opallos, which means “to see a change (of color).” It is often associated faithfulness, protection and loyalty. The opal stone is also believed to enhance one’s vision as well as creativity.

The alluring Opal is most often used as a stunning center stone for rings, pendants and cabochons.

September Birthstone: Precious Blue Sapphire

Sunday, August 23rd, 2015

2015, Diamond and Jewelry Gallery, pic, loose sapphire

The richly blue Sapphire is the birthstone of those fortunate enough to be born in September. Giving gifts of jewelry in signature birthstone gems is an age old tradition. Have you ever wondered when it started?

As far as we can tell, the first century Jewish historian Josephus introduced the idea of an association between the twelve stones in Aaron’s breastplate and the twelve months of the year and their zodiac signs. Also, in the eighth and ninth century, Christian religious documents associating a particular gemstone with an apostle were written as a nod to the book of Revelation reference that “their name would be inscribed on the Foundation Stones, and his virtue.” Eventually, it became common to keep twelve stones and wear one a month. The tradition of wearing only a single birthstone, as is commonly done today, is thought to be only a few centuries old, and now is more a matter of aesthetics as opposed to anything with religious overtones.

No matter your birthstone, whether it’s a diamond, a pearl or an amethyst – be sure to wear it with pride, flair and style. Here’s a bit about the September birthstone – beautifully intense Sapphire.

SAPPHIRE – ONE OF THE “PRECIOUS FOUR”

Magnificent sapphire gemstones are most prized for their beautiful hues of dark blue. However, this exquisite stone comes in a rainbow of other colors, including yellow, pink, orange and purple. The lovely blue color of the sapphire is associated with feelings of sympathy and harmony, friendship and loyalty. Sapphires are one of the “precious four,” a set of highly valuable gemstones that includes diamonds, rubies and emeralds.

“King of Stones:” The Ever Powerful Ruby Gemstone

Sunday, May 17th, 2015

2015, Diamond and Jewelry Gallery, pic, ruby ring with center marquis diamond, shield

Often said to be the most magnificent of all gemstones, the ruby holds fire red prominence as one of the most sought after and highly regarded stones. In fact, the boldly beautiful gem is often called the “king of stones.” With its name stemming from the Latin word for “red,” this striking beauty of a gem engenders notions of power and nobility.

The Meaning of Rubies

Thought of as the ultimate symbol of power, rubies are said to stimulate sensuality, energy and vitality.

Throughout history, the ruby has been highly regarded by multiple cultures. For many, it was symbolic of power, passion and protection. Throughout history, the ruby was worn as a decorative shield against plague and pestilence. It was also thought to be able to signal impending danger, safeguard the body and ward off sadness.

Today, the ruby is prized for its deeply intense and fiery beauty. It is also the birthstone of those lucky enough to be born in the month of July.

THE ENVIABLE EMERALD

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015

2014, diamond and jewelry gallery, pic, emerald double drape necklace, approved

For those lucky enough to be born in May, the envy-inspiring emerald is their official birthstone. However, stunning emeralds are not just for May babies. Throughout history, this precious green gemstone has been sought by both royals and common folk, alike. In fact, the deep and richly-colored green beauties have reigned as one of the world’s most desirable gemstones for centuries.

The emerald is considered the most precious and valuable gem of the beryl family of stones. For admirers of the storied gem, the allure of the emerald is all about the color, color, color. Emeralds are prized – and often revered – for their intensely brilliant green color ranging in hues from yellow greens to bluish greens to intense dark greens. The stones have often thought to be “magical” because of their tendency toward an almost mystical radiance. The deep green glimmer of the emerald is unmatched in the world of gemstones and is considered among the “precious four,” a short list of high-end gemstones that also includes the diamond, rubies and sapphires.

The Meaning of Emeralds

The name comes from the old French word ‘esmeralde,’ which is a derivative of the Greek word ‘smaragdos,’ simply meaning ‘green stone.’ The rich and magnificent green of the emerald has been thought to convey harmony, nature, beauty and love. It is often associated with Springtime, resurgence and re-growth.

Where To Find Beautiful Emeralds

Colombia is the most widely known source for the highly desirable dark green emerald, although the stones can be found in and mined from many places around the globe including Africa and across Europe. However, probably the oldest known emerald finds were once made near the Red Sea in Egypt.

Find your own “enviable emerald” much closer to home at the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City, California. The stunning showroom offers its clients stunning emerald jewelry designed to fit a range of fine jewelry budgets from large to small. Voted “Favorite Jewelry Store” by the Los Angeles Daily News, the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery Studio City carries one the largest selections of precious colored stones and EGL & GIA certified diamonds anywhere – often at more than 50-75% below retail. The store also guarantees their stones to be “conflict-free,” which is increasingly important to today’s consumers.

March Birthstone: The Stunning Aquamarine Gemstone!

Thursday, March 5th, 2015

18

For those lucky enough to be born in the Month of March, the fluid — and many say mesmerizing — Aquamarine gemstone is the birthstone of the month. The blue beauties are worn by many, however, and they reign as one of the world’s most popular gemstones.

For those looking to make a bold statement without saying a word, the aquamarine stone can do just that. Consider having a piece custom-designed for yourself or someone special from Diamantaire “Johnny N,” creator of the signature “Johnny N” Designer Line. “Johnny N” pieces like the pictured aquamarine and diamond ring and earrings are sought after for their unique design, attention to detail and superior craftsmanship. Get started on your piece today by calling 818-982-4444, or visit diamondandjewelrygallery.com

How To Spot an Aquamarine Gemstone

Aquamarines are found in hues ranging from very pale blue to dark blue-greens. They can be found in quite large sizes and usually have excellent clarity.

Though they are often confused with blue topaz, the two are not at all the same. Aquamarines are actually much more valuable due to the fact that their deeply calming azure color is naturally occurring. Blue topaz, however, is created by treating colorless topaz with radiation.

The Meaning of Aquamarines

The aquamarine possesses a storied history as endlessly rich as the stones themselves. Aquamarines are said to symbolize eternal youth and happiness. Historically, they were thought to possess powers far beyond that of their stunning beauty. According to legend, aquamarine gems encourage prosperity in mental and physical health.

It has also been said that the aquamarine protects those who wear it from harm. In fact, ancient sailors believed that the gem held powers that could ward off maritime disasters. The sparkling, crystalline gem was also thought to be the bounty of elusive mermaids.

Where Do Aquamarines Come From?

Aquamarine is mined in Brazil, throughout Africa and Asia, and in Colorado, where it acts as the state gemstone. In Brazil, they are found most in the Santa Maria de Itabira mine in Brazil. Richly colored aquamarines also occur in African countries including Mozambique, Nigeria, Zambia, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Distinguished aquamarines of African origin are labeled “Santa Maria Africana.”

Where To Find a High Quality Aquamarine?

Much closer than Brazil or the African continent, you can find stunning aquamarines to fit every style and budget at the Diamond & Jewelry Gallery Studio City. We carry the largest selection of precious colored stones and EGL & GIA certified diamonds and jewelry anywhere – often at more than 50-75% below retail. Visit our showroom at 12456 Ventura Boulevard, Studio City, CA, or diamondandjewelrygallery.com
